Developing a well formulated set of competencies for your organisation supports successful selection, evaluation, development and reward systems. Novations Group - for which we act as UK Consultant Partners - has been a leader in competency development and implementation for more than a decade. Competency systems have incredible potential to focus and increase an organisation's capabilities necessary to deliver bottom line results. To achieve such results, our experience indicates three key elements need to be present:
- A clear link between the company's strategy and its competency system
- The competency system's ability to describe successful behaviours and expected contributions for all individuals in the company, regardless of role or level
- The ease with which the competency system can be integrated with other performance systems

The combination of the organisation's future needs and the elements of high performance are then combined to create a list of core competencies.
Thereafter we create a competency model that is integrated with The Four Stages of Contribution model so that people in any role or in any career stage have a competency development map. The staged competencies can than be implemented into various HR practices including interviewing processes, career development, performance management, succession planning and compensation.
